Trying to coach with the same tone and demeanor during a 7 game losing streak as you do during a 7 game winning streak is a real challenge. Working to improve and learn new things helps keep me in the right frame of mind. I think the real advantage of consistency is not necessarily the routine but more importantly, it is the actual gains that are produced over time that puts our kids in a better position to become successful at some later date.
Football and track require considerable improvements year over year. I plan to use my time with Gilpin students to focus on incremental improvements throughout the year by developing ways to help them stay connected to the sport during the off-season and over the summer months. I think that helping others to see the benefits of consistency will also help me stay steady as a leader. Consistency in my coaching mindset does little without also being reliable and dependable to my athletes throughout the year.
